Child Support for Wealthy Parent with Substantial Assets, But Little Income

A professional baseball player earned $10 million per year for five years and then moved to reduced his child support once his contract ended and he no longer had that $10 million annual income. He continued to live a lavish lifestyle, but opposed any support amount that would have the effect of benefitting the child’s mother (whom he believed trapped him). The court itself questioned whether it could, or should, consider the father’s considerable assets in deciding the amount of child support he would pay. Here was my brief, summarizing the law on the subject.
