Ms. Sutherland began her odyssey in the legal profession more than 20 years ago, in 1980. Her wide range of legal experience has contributed to her success as a California personal injury, family law, employment and wrongful termination attorney, and in other litigation. After eight years as a legal secretary, she earned her paralegal certificate from U.S.D. and worked as a litigation paralegal for another eight years. She graduated from Whittier Law School in 1996. During law school where she studied to become a civil litigation attorney, Ms. Sutherland served as a Judicial Extern to two well-respected jurists, Associate Justice Norman L. Epstein of the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, and Judge Alex Kozinski of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Upon graduation, she quickly made law in a case she litigated pro per against a $72 billion mortgage company, Sutherland v. Barclays American/Mortgage Corp. (1997) 53 Cal.App.4th 299. During her first year out of law school (1997), she clerked for six judicial officers in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Central District, Family Law Department. She has since been in private practice, working as a California employment lawyer as well as litigating family, personal injury, business and other cases and appeals.
